How we got here part 6

So he met my mom, charmed her and...she still said "No"

Damn. Well, I thought, I am going to date him anyway. I don't NEEED her blessing. She can't stop me right? No, she couldn't but Tom, being the "I always do the right thing" guy resolved that if she said no, we would not go on a date because then he would live up to every misconception she had of him the college boy.

Swoon. Yes, it made me want him even more.

Then something happened. It really makes me believe in "Meant to Be".

My Mom and her husband were going out of town (something they did all the time) the weekend Tom and I were to have our date. I was going to spend the weekend with my Grandmother.  I love her so much. She was the sweetest woman you would ever meet. I still miss her, she passed away 10 years ago.

So, where was I? OK I was going to be staying with my Grandma for the weekend and I thought, well Mom won't be home so I can still go out with Tom.

Except I was a teenager and I thought my Mom didn't know squat and she beat me to the punch and informed Grandma that I "Was not to go out with that older boy."

This is where the "Meant to be" part happens.

My Grandmother, my 86 year old Grandma intervened.

She asked if Mom met "the boy" and my Mom told her yes.
She asked if he was a nice boy and my Mom said yes.
She asked what the problem was and Mom said "He is 20 and Lori is 16"

My Grandma said "You think he is a nice boy, and Lori thinks he is a nice boy and wants to go out with him, then let her go. You can give your blessing and watch the relationship or you can forbid and she will more than likely carry on the relationship and you won't know a thing. Take your pick."

To quote my 15 year old....... "OWWWNED"

My mom thought about what Grandma said and caved on the condition that I was not to step foot on his college campus or more importantly his dorm room.

Riiiiiight {wink-wink} I would never do that!!!

So the date was on. OMG the date was on!!! I WAS GOING ON A DATE WITH HIM! A REAL ONE!!!!!

What was I going to wear??????
